Slumdog Millionaire is based on a book written by an Indian
There
is an uproar among many Indians - in the blogosphere as well as among
many of my friends and family - that Slumdog Millionaire being
derogatory in nature. It seems to be a misunderstanding. I came across this post by the infamous Arindham Chaudhari known for many controversies , failures and ridiculous stunts/stints in Bollywood cinema .
I read a comment on his blogpost only to realize that this movie is
based on a novel written by an Indian author. Here's the comment:

would have been more appreciated had you done an iota of research
before launching an assault on an otherwise fine piece of cinema. It is
not a little known fact that the movie is based on a novel by an
'Indian' novelist who goes by the name of Vikas Swarup. Yes, this movie does focus on a side of India that the upwardly mobile Indian likes to believe doesn't exist. Yes
it does - to an extent, that is - seek to satisfy the views of some -
the 'evil' babus of the West as you so inarticulately put it. Yes, it has taken a few liberties, most notably from the point Jamal enters adolescence. But
it does not take away the honesty of the depiction. Slums, poverty,
prostitution et al. are a reality. Just because a few of us choose to
sit in plush offices and mint money all day long, it doesn't take
anything away from this brilliant piece of cinema. Finally would suggest you to read www.blogpourri.blogspot.com/2009/01/review-slumdog-millionaire.html for a rather genuine review of the movie.
